HELEN SHELTON - percussion

Helen started her musical journey at school on violin and piano. At the age of 13 she was asked to join the Salvation Army band and decided that the drums looked fun - the rest is history!

Helen went on to study a for a degree in Contemporary Music, majoring in performance (percussion) and composition, at Nottingham Trent University.

As a percussionist there is much opportunity for a variety of performance and Helen has covered just about all, from playing with a variety of top championship section brass bands, to being spotted regularly with numerous orchestras and playing in many theatre productions on timpani, percussion and drum kit.  The shows that Helen has been involved with are are too numerous to mention, but highlights include 'West Side Story', 'Sister Act' and premiers of 'Scandalous' and 'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning' to name but a few.

When Helen is not playing she teaches percussion & drum kit to students at The Elms and Trent College in Long Eaton where she also runs a variety of ensembles.
