Ian began playing the trumpet at the age of eight. He then went on to study at Trinity College of Music, under the tuition of Iaan Wilson (Royal opera House), Ian Balmain and Bob Farley.

Upon graduating Ian became Co-principle of the Philharmonie der Nationen, performing extensively in Germany and around the world for five years. Ian is currently a freelance trumpet player, working with Orchestra da Camera, Bimingham Opera Comany and National Festival Orchestra amongst many others.

He also works in smaller brass groups such as Westminster Brass Ensemble, Pro Musica Brass Ensemble and various other brass quintets.

Along with playing, Ian teaches 'brass' in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, and is trumpet specialist at Trent College in Long Eaton.  He is also is a brass tutor for Nottingham Youth Orchestra.

Away from music Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing golf and watching his beloved West Bromwich Albion!
